a red shirt and a silver tongue
Thomas is a fire mage and a spellsinger, which means his songs are spells and his spells are songs and he can tap out a rhythm on a tabletop in a bar and disorient a room. He is charming in the particular way of people who have survived primarily on charm, and silver-tongued in the way of people who have had to talk their way out of more situations than they could count.
He is the Dreamer of the Flame — passion, art, destruction, creation, ego. The Dream that burns things down and insists the ash is the point.
He is also exiled from Santana, the only home he ever loved, because of something that happened in his past. He does not remember what. The hex that keeps him away remains regardless.
what he’s running from
He woke up on the sentient ship Actæon with no memory, alongside Sailorboy, and the first thing he did was make a joke. This is the Thomas method: keep moving, keep talking, keep the energy in the room slightly off-balance so nobody can get a clear look at the thing underneath.
The thing underneath is someone who is capable of extraordinary love and has spent a very long time making sure nobody finds out.
He is mechanically, structurally, cosmically inclined toward selfishness — the story rewards it, his nature rewards it, everything in his life has rewarded it. He is beginning to suspect this is not actually working.
what he can do
He collects Songs. Magical Songs, instruments, spells woven into melody that he can deploy without check or preparation, at will. He can perfectly duplicate any sound or voice he has ever heard. He can transport himself and one other person instantly to his safe haven — a place called the Brigitte Bardo — without effort.
He can, when he chooses, pour his music into the people he loves and ease their pain. He doesn’t always choose this. He is working on it.
The Dry Witches once foretold that he sings the world into, or possibly out of, being. He tries not to think about this too much.
